Here we present in situ ocean data from the Kamb Ice Stream grounding zone of the Ross Ice Shelf, Antarctica, that reveal a consistently stratified 30 m thick water column beneath nearly 600 m of ice and snow. The ocean data include temperature and salinity profiles as well as a ten-month long timeseries of temperature, salinity and currents at several depths. The KIS1/HWD1 (Kamb Ice Stream, Hot Water Drill) Camp was established in October of 2019 at 82°S 47.0464' 155°W 15.7601' on the floating ice shelf downstream of the presently stationary Kamb Ice Stream. The borehole was kept open over the period of 15-23 December 2019. The sub-ice water column at the camp site was 30 m deep on average and beneath 587 m of ice and snow. Nine profiler deployments were conducted over a seven-day period. Profiling was primarily conducted with RBR Concerto CTD (conductivity-temperature depth) profiling instruments (both plastic, shallow and deep-water titanium RBR instruments were used). These were cross-calibrated against irregular profiles with an RBR Duet (pressure and temperature only), as well as the moored SBE-37 MicroCat CTDs. Turbidity was measured using a Seapoint Turbidity Meter which uses an 880 nm detection light source. After the profiling and other borehole focused activity had taken place a suite of instruments (five SoundNine XT thermistors; two Nortek Aquadopp current meters; two Impact SubSea ISA500 altimeters; two Seabird Electronics “MicroCat” temperature-conductivity-pressure SBE-37) were suspended from the ice with an inductive cable. The cable enabled communication from the instruments to the surface logger whereby the data were telemetered with an Iridium satellite communication modem and were therefore remotely accessible. This was deployed on the 24th December 2019. The full suite of sensors sampled the water column for ten months with the upper current meter ceasing to report back on the 14th September 2020.
