The proposed project will have the following specific objectives:-a) To develop an annotated reference genome of Black Bengal goat (BBG) with high sequence coverage (100X) using state-of-the-art next-generation sequencing (NGS) approach and other modern computational biology toolsb) To foster comparative genomics and transcriptomics study (through RNAseq approach) to identify gene(s) associated with economically important traits of BBG (eg. high prolificacy and milk production traits)c) To strengthen national and international collaboration towards capacity building and human resource development for functional genomics study intended for field application of BBG genome data
