GDS describes how blue or black yarn is obtained to make the 'babogo' checkered loincloth or striped loincloths. These colours are simply obtained by varying the number of times the yarn is immersed in the dye bath. He also explains how a red dye is made from the bark of the tulu tree (Pterocarpus erinaceus), which is boiled to obtain a solution called bauri.
