Replication Data for: Racial and Ethnic Representation in Literature Taught in US High Schools

This dataset includes 396 books and their authors and characters associated with English Language Arts curriculum in the United States. These books are drawn from two sources of book lists: Advanced Placement English Literature exams, and books listed by a selected set of teachers who teach predominantly Black and Hispanic students. We extract characters using a modified version of Bamman's BookNLP, and perceived sociodemographic metadata around authors and characters are hand-annotated.
