We produce a short-read genome assembly of the North American wolverine (Gulo gulo luscus), in conjunction with a chromosomal-level reference-assisted assembly (see PRJNA775072) for comparison. These assemblies would allow a phylogenetic comparison with the European wolverine (Gulo gulo gulo) and other members of the Mustelidae. The genome would facilitate genomics-based conservation management of the wolverine, a cold-adapted carnivore that is now under threat due to habitat loss from climate change and human encroachment.
