ESBL Enterobacteria in beef cattle farm

This study aimed at understanding the origin of extended-spectrum beta-lactamase (ESBL) Enterobacteria in food-producing animals farm free of third-generation cephalosporins (3GC) use and to explain their maintenance. The occurrence of ESBL E. coli in a farm free of 3GC use is probably due to an as yet undefined human origin of Enterobacterial blaCTX-M-15 gene transmission to animals in close contact with cattle farm workers, and a maintenance of the local ESBL E. coli reservoir by a large diversity of flies and oxytetracycline selective pressure.
