VPRS 9474 Register of General Correspondence Files (Alphabetically Re-arranged Inactive Portion of pre-1928 files), Single Number System

This series was created by the State Rivers and Water Supply Commission (VA 723) in 1954 when all inactive and closed files, were re-arranged into one alphabetical sequence. Upon completion of the re-arrangement according to the primary and secondary subjects, each file in this collection was allocated a new sequential number.Two volumes comprising this series listed files in numerical order and provided details relating to file title, date range and cross reference to old file numbers recorded in VPRS 9604 Register of File Numbers for Alphabetically Re-arranged Inactive Portion of pre 1928 General Correspondence Files.Both these series provided access to and facilitated retrieval of inactive files removed from the original recordkeeping system. This collection of inactive files was later serialised as VPRS 3844 General Correspondence Files (Alphabetically Re-arranged Inactive Portion of VPRS 6008, pre 1928 files), Single Number System.VPRS 9474 (this series) listed files in new number order and provided cross reference to old file numbers. Relevant parts of VPRS 9604 and VPRS 14628 - its microfiche copy did the same in reverse.It is not necessary to use these registers for research purposes.
