# The Neural Computation and Comparison of Value in Simple Choice ## Overview This dataset contains fMRI and behavioral data from a study examining how visual attention modulates decision-related signals in the brain during value-based choices. ## Experimental Design Participants chose between pairs of food lotteries while undergoing fMRI scanning with simultaneous eye-tracking. Participants sampled random draws from both lotteries every 4-8 seconds until they were ready to make a choice. ## Data Acquisition - Scanner: Siemens Magnetom Prisma 3T - Head coil: 32-channel - Functional: T2*-weighted gradient-echo, 48 slices, 3mm isotropic, TR=2.6s, TE=28ms - Anatomical: MPRAGE T1-weighted - Eye-tracking: EyeLink 1000 Plus at 500 Hz - 3 functional runs per subject (~15 minutes each) ## Preprocessing Note The functional and anatomical images in this dataset have undergone minimal preprocessing: - Slice timing correction (reference: bottom slice) - Motion correction (realignment to mean EPI) - B0 unwarping (susceptibility distortion correction) - Spatial normalization to MNI152 space (SPM12) - Smoothing with 8mm FWHM Gaussian kernel Raw unprocessed data were not available at the time of BIDS conversion. ## Participants - N = 23 right-handed participants - Age range: Adults - All had normal or corrected-to-normal vision - No history of neurological disorders ## Ethics This study was approved by The Ohio State University Biomedical Sciences IRB. ## Contact Dr. Ian Krajbich University of California Los Angeles krajbich@ucla.edu ## References Shevlin, B., Gwinn, R., Makwana, A., & Krajbich, I. (2026). Overt visual attention modulates decision-related signals in ventral and dorsal medial prefrontal cortex. This is because the preprocessed NIfTI files have TR=0 in their headers due to: - Slice timing correction - Motion correction - B0 unwarping - Spatial normalization to MNI152 - Smoothing (8mm FWHM) - The actual acquisition used TR = 2.6 seconds. VolumeTiming specifies the acquisition\ntime of each volume (0, 2.6, 5.2, 7.8, ... seconds). This approach complies with BIDS specification for cases where RepetitionTime is unavailable or unreliable due to preprocessing
