This strain was isolated from activated sludge acquired from a municipal wastewater plant as part of a student thesis investigating enterococcal CRISPR-Cas immunity to viral infection. The genome was sequenced after PCR screening indicated that it contained three CRISPR arrays. Previous research suggests that active CRISPR-Cas immunity in Enterococcus species is negatively correlated with acquired antibiotic resistance.
