Site initially located by MoLAS, 1997, as part of work commissioned by Union Railways (South) Limited. Excavation, prior to destruction during construction of high speed rail link, carried out by Canterbury Archaeological Trust, 1998. Archaeological features included pits and ditches with much evidence of iron-smelting and working.
