We are examining seasonal and daily variation in gene expression that may underlie brain mechanisms of vocal-acoustic communication in the plainfin midshipman fish. The midshipman is as a well-studied neuroethological model for vocal-acoustic communication. By identifying expression changes in focal tissues (hindbrain and ear) across behaviorally salient time points, we aimed to identify genes that play key roles in audition and vocalization.
