NTB_Multidimensional_FOMO_PSU dataset

A multidimensional view of fear of missing out as a mediator between the need to belong and problematic smartphone use.

- The data was collected from a total of 149 Malaysian undergraduates, and is anonymized for confidentiality.

- The data contains socio-demographic data, Need to Belong Scale (NTBS) scores (Leary et al., 2013), Fear of Missing Out (FoMO) scores (Przybylski et al., 2013), and Problematic Mobile Phone Use Questionnaire - Short Version scores (Lopez-Fernandez et al., 2018). The total scores for each scale are provided (items that are reverse-coded were used in the sum calculations instead of normal-coded items).

- The study conceptualized FOMO using Casale and Fioravanti (2020)'s two factor structure, which divides total FoMO scores into FOMO-Fear (FoMO items 1, 2, 3, 4) and FOMO-Control (FoMO items 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10). The compute scores for both FOMO-Fear and FOMO-Control are already provided in the data.
