The European Social Survey (ESS) is an international comparative survey that has been conducted by face-to-face interviews every two years in Europe since 2001. The ESS maps the attitudes, opinions and civic behaviours of different populations across Europe. The questionnaire consists of a central module which is repeated for each survey, and “rotating modules” on specific subjects, which change from one edition to the next. The questions asked within the framework of the ELIPSS panel are part of the central module, and concern well-being, personal and political values, trust in other people and institutions. The replication of part of this survey in a probabilistic online panel is a unique opportunity to compare data acquired from two different modes of collection, and to measure the potential impact of this difference on the results of a quantitative survey. The survey was conducted with the panellists between December 2014 and February 2015, during the ELIPSS project’s pilot phase. The fieldwork took place at the same time as the fieldwork for the seventh European Social Survey, which ran from October 2014 to March 2015.
