Whole genome sequence for the electric eel, Electrophorus electricus. Transcriptome sequencing (RNAseq) for eight tissues of E. electricus (brain, spinal cord, heart, skeletal muscle, main electric organ, Sachs' electric organ, Hunter's electric organ, and kidney). Transcriptome sequencing of skeletal muscle and electric organ for four other fish species (Sternopygus macrurus, Eigenmannia virescens, Malapterurus electricus, and Brienomyrus brachyistius). With these data we provide the first comprehensive molecular analysis of electric organs in electric fishes. Additionally, we used these data the molecular basis for the convergent evolution of electric organs.
