Transcriptome analysis of Bryophyte Calohypnum plumiforme

To screen biosynthetic genes involved in the production of plant diterpenoid defensive compound momilacones, we performed RNA-seq experiments using gametophyte of bryophyte Calohypnum plumiforme, one of the momilactone-producing plants. Plant samples were treated with or without CuCl2 as a heavy metal stress to induce the production of momilactones and relevant biosynthetic gene. Candidate genes are functionally analyzed by in vitro and in planta enzyme assay to show the involvement of these genes on the momilactone production.
