Renewable Electricity Generation and Macroeconomic Indicators for Kazakhstan and Russia, 2014–2022

This dataset was developed to support empirical research on the effects of renewable energy policy instruments on electricity generation outcomes. It includes annual data from 2014 to 2022 for Kazakhstan and Russia, covering renewable electricity generation and selected macroeconomic indicators. The panel dataset on electricity generation was constructed using primary data from the International Energy Agency and macroeconomic indicators from the World Bank. Electricity generation trends for both countries were further supplemented via Our World in Data. The dataset is structured to enable econometric analysis—particularly Difference-in-Differences estimation—of Kazakhstan’s transition to competitive renewable energy auctions compared with Russia’s continued use of capacity-based support mechanisms.
