Phototrohic and heterotrophic bacteria were isolated from hot spring microbial mats in Yellowstone National Park (WY, USA) and genome sequenced. These (draft) genomes will lead to a deeper understanding of adaption to life in extreme environments and species interaction in microbial mat populations. They further will serve as reference genomes for (meta-)transcriptomic studies.
