Data for: Impact of a Scratch Programming Intervention on Student Engagement in a Nigerian Polytechnic First-Year Class: Verdict From the Observers

This dataset contains ratings by five computer science educators. We randomly assigned one observer per week to observe a class of first-year computer science in a north-central Nigerian polytechnic. Using a 20-item class observation protocol, each educator observed the levels of students' affective, behavioural, and cognitive engagement in a constructionist Scratch programming class. Observations took place during the weekly two-hour class session. Class observations lasted for five weeks. We can further explore this data for levels of programming attitude, knowledge, skills and collaborations students exhibited during the classes. This may provide another perspective on the impact of Scratch on novice computing students.本数据集包含五位计算机科学教育工作者的评分数据。我们每周随机指派一名观察员，对尼日利亚中北部一所理工学院的一年级计算机科学专业班级开展课堂观察。每位教育工作者采用20条目课堂观察量表，对建构主义导向的Scratch编程课堂中学生的情感、行为及认知投入水平进行观测。课堂观察于每周两小时的授课时段内进行，整个观测周期共计五周。 我们可基于本数据集进一步探究学生在课堂中展现出的编程态度、知识、技能与协作水平，这或将为理解Scratch对计算机入门学习者的影响提供全新视角。
