Discordant effects of maternal age on the human MII oocyte transcriptome

This study investigates the effects of maternal age on gene expression in human metaphase II (MII) oocytes, utilizing high-depth paired-end Smart-seq2 sequencing to generate transcriptomic data from oocytes collected from a cohort of 20 female donors undergoing ICSI treatment. The oocytes were divided into two age groups: younger (mean age 26.8 years) and older (mean age 43.9 years). The data generated in this study, combined with publicly available datasets, creates a comprehensive expression atlas of oocyte aging.
