High throughput DNA sequencing of bulk invertebrate samples ('metabarcoding') enables simultaneous identification of multiple taxa for environmental monitoring. The accuracy of metabarcoding studies is dependent on the recovery of the targeted taxa using amplification primers. Our study tests the performance of 31 primer sets on a mock community containing 401 aquatic invertebrate OTUs from 31 different orders.
