Whole genome resequencing data of 18 Tokay gecko (Gekko gecko) from Bangladesh

The tokay gecko (Gekko gecko), widely distributed across Asia, faces severe population declines due to illegal trade and habitat loss. Despite its broad geographic range, no genetic data currently exist for tokay gecko populations in Bangladesh, where the species inhabits fragmented deciduous (central/northwest), semi-evergreen (northeast), evergreen (southeast), and mangrove (southwest) forests isolated by natural and anthropogenic barriers. This study presents the first morphometric measurements and comprehensive genetic assessment of this species in Bangladesh using genome resequencing, combining mitochondrial (COI) and nuclear loci (806,156 independent SNP sites) to evaluate its phylogenetic relationships and population structure.
