The didemnid ascidian Lissoclinum patella harbors two enigmatic cyanobacteria: (i) Prochloron spp., an obligate symbiont within the cloacal cavity of the ascidian, and (ii) the Chlorophyll d–containing cyanobacterium Acaryochloris spp., living on its underside and utilizing far-red light (>700nm) for oxygenic photosynthesis.
