Catalogues of spectroscopic redshifts by a Bayesian convolutional network

The "dr16q_superset_redshift.csv" file provides a catalogue of spectroscopic redshifts for spectra from the 16th data release of the Sloan Digital Sky Survey (SDSS) quasar superset catalogue. The redshifts are predicted by a Bayesian convolutional neural network named Bayesian SZNet so that we also can estimate a predictive uncertainty in the form of predictive entropy. The second "dr16q_superset_redshift_failures.csv" file contains spectra for which the Bayesian SZNet's predictions differ from the best available redshifts (the column denoted <em>z</em>) by more than 3000 km s<sup>−1</sup> in terms of their velocity differences (such redshift estimations are called catastrophic failures). Therefore, the second file is a subset of the first one. Both catalogues are released as CSV files with the following columns: <em>plate</em>: spectroscopic plate number; <em>mjd</em>: modified Julian day of the spectroscopic observation; <em>fiberid</em>: fiber ID number; <em>z_pred</em>: redshift predicted by Bayesian SZNet; <em>z</em>: best available redshift taken from <em>z_vi</em>, <em>z_pipe</em>, <em>z_dr12q</em>, <em>z_dr7q_sch</em>, <em>z_dr6q_hw</em>, and <em>z_10k</em>; <em>source</em><em>_z</em>: the origin of the reported redshift in <em>z;</em> <em>is_qso_final</em>: flag indicating quasars to be included in the final catalogue; <em>entropy</em>: predictive entropy associated with the redshift prediction; <em>z_pred_1</em> to <em>z_pred_20</em>: redshifts predictions from the 20 runs of Bayesian SZNet that can be used for redshift suggestions; <em>z_vi</em>: visual inspection redshift; <em>z_pipe</em>: SDSS automated pipeline redshift; <em>zwarning</em>: quality flag on the pipeline redshift estimate; <em>z_dr12q</em>: redshift taken from DR12Q visual inspection; <em>z_dr7q_sch</em>: redshift taken from DR7Q Schneider et al. (2010) catalogue; <em>z_dr6q_hw</em>: redshift taken from DR6 Hewett and Wild (2010) catalogue; <em>z_10k</em>: redshift from visual inspection in random set; <em>z_pca</em>: PCA-derived redshift from the redvsblue algorithm; <em>z_qn</em>: redshift from QuasarNET; where columns <em>z</em>, <em>source_z</em>, <em>is_qso_final</em>, <em>z_vi</em>, <em>z_pipe</em>, <em>zwarning</em>, <em>z_dr12q</em>, <em>z_dr7q_sch</em>, <em>z_dr6q_hw</em>, <em>z_10k</em>, <em>z_pca</em>, and <em>z_qn</em> are taken from the 16th data release of the SDSS quasar superset catalogue.
