Reef Rescue Paddock Scale Modelling and Monitoring

The project increases the area and condition of remnant rainforest, volunteers will propagate, plant and maintain local native trees, control environmental "The Paddock to Reef (P2R) programme provides evidence of links between on ground Reef Programme and other Reef Plan investments in agricultural land management practice improvements and subsequent effects on water quality (including pollutant loads) and reef health. A combination of paddock monitoring, rainfall simulation and paddock scale modelling is used to assess progress towards meeting load reduction targets outlined in Reef Plan 2013. Specifically, paddock modelling is used to inform end-of-catchment loads of key pollutants for each major catchment in the Great Barrier Reef and the outcomes of management practice changes. Paddock modelling is an essential component to the reporting process, and provides the linkage between on ground investment and the scaling up and extrapolation of project outcomes to end of catchment water quality.
P2R provides feedback to Reef Plan programme implementation staff on the relative effectiveness of various investments in on-ground management practice improvement and permits adaptive management of projects to maximise reef water quality outcomes using the available resources."
