NEON Zooplankton DNA Barcodes - 2017

This study provides the sequence data for the NEON data product, zooplankton DNA barcode (NEON.DP1.20221). The goal of the NEON zooplankton DNA barcoding project is to track changes in the diversity and composition of microfauna in aquatic planktonic ecosystems through space and time. NEON collects zooplankton from numerous sites distributed across the United States. Total genomic DNA is extracted and the CO1 gene of the zooplankton community is sequenced using high-throughput methods. Multiple portions of the CO1 gene (such as the BE or F230 regions) may be separately amplified and sequenced for each sample in order to more completely capture zooplankton diversity.
