This dataset accompanies the paper titled "Foram3D: A Pipeline for 3D Synthetic Data Generation and Rendering of Foraminifera for Image Analysis and Reconstruction". It contains sample synthetic 3D models and rendered images of planktonic foraminifera, generated using our custom data pipeline built in Blender. The dataset is organized into two primary folders: 3D_Models: Includes sample synthetic 3D meshes mimicking seven planktonic foraminifera species: Planoheterohelix praenuttalli, Planoheterohelix moremani, Gallitellia vivans, Anomalina cubana, Neogloboquadrina pachyderma, Globigerina bulloides, and Neogloboquadrina dutertrei. These meshes were procedurally generated to mimic the morphology of real-world specimens and serve as synthetic data for machine learning applications in morphology-based classification and reconstruction. Renders: Contains a set of rendered images of the synthetic species, simulating two different imaging environments—Forabot and Microfluidics—that reflect current microscopy-based foram imaging systems. Detailed descriptions of these imaging configurations are available in the associated journal publication. This dataset is intended to support research in 3D reconstruction, classification, and synthetic data generation for microscopic organisms.
