VPRS 7852 Register of Applications for Gold Mining Leases on Reserved Lands

The Mines (Amendment) Act 1872 (36 Vic.,No.446) introduced a provision for leases to be granted for mining under or upon land reserved for railways, waterworks, public parks, and places of recreation or public purpose subject to the consent of the Board of Land and Works. This series comprises a register of such leases maintained from April 1873 and was used to allocate a unique number to each lease application as well as to record a history of the lease through to expiry or cancellation.Summary details about the application were recorded on the left hand side of each folio. The right hand side of the folio contains a chronological summary of correspondence or action relating to the lease.
