To achieve higher energy efficiency and higher moisture removal, a novel unitary solid desiccant air conditioner (USDAC) is proposed for typical humid area in summer. The control strategy of USDAC is to regulate the evaporator temperature to maintain sensible heat capacity and to adjust the duration time to maintain latent heat capacity. The system feasibility is theoretically analysed and two criteria are defined to indicate the system’s dehumidification effectiveness and energy efficiency. Parametric studies are conducted and power saving potentials of USDAC is investigated. The results show that the USDAC can achieve power savings of 17–37% over unitary air conditioner (UAC).
