Text Analysis of Disaster Risk Governance Policies in Brazil and Colombia, 2019-2021

URBE Latam tackled the gap between sustainable development and equitable resilience by using a transdisciplinary approach. This approach empowered residents in disaster-prone, economically disadvantaged urban areas, leading to improved local risk understanding and better integration of this data into disaster risk reduction and sustainable development decision-making. The project, carried out by a multi-disciplinary team, focused on co-producing citizen-generated data in partnership with local initiatives and governmental agencies in Rio de Janeiro and Medellin. The project had four main components: firstly, engaging citizens to gather neighbourhood-level risk data; secondly, analysing socio-spatial inequalities alongside this data; thirdly, recalibrating environmental risk maps using the data; and fourthly, integrating these elements to facilitate dialogic transformations among stakeholders. This data collection contains the sqml code, the coded text (.xls), and the coding scheme table (docx.) from an analysis of equity in disaster risk policies in Colombia in Spanish and Brazil in Brazilian Portuguese.
