Abstract Using single-particle level scheme as input, we have developed a code to calculate total and particle-hole state densities both for even and odd nuclei. A mathematically exact recursive method is used for the solution of the problem within Fermi gas model. No residual interaction is considered. The state density is obtained under the independent particle assumption. Therefore no residual interaction can be considered in this approach.
