Estimates of Entries and Exits at Melbourne Metropolitan Stations (2004-05 to 2010-11)

The estimates provided of station entries are drawn from the Metropolitan Station Patronage Model. The metropolitan station patronage model utilises all available validation rate survey data to estimate validation rates by day type and time of day on normal weekdays (weekdays which are neither public nor school holidays), Saturdays and Sundays for each station entrance from 2004-05 onwards.  Changes in enforcement practices and the deployment of ticketing system equipment are reflected as far as they can be detected in the data.  Observed or inferred validation rates are applied to the number of validations at each station entrance to estimate actual station entries.
