Rhodococcus opacus strain R7 (CIP107348) was selected from a polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbon-contaminated soil for its ability to metabolize naphthalene and o-xylene. As R7 strain catabolizes also a wide range of aromatic and aliphatic hydrocarbon compounds, it represents a strain of considerable environmental and industrial interest.
