The presented new method of forecasting the rate of accumulation of sediments suspended in reservoir water in bottom sediments allows for the obtainment of reasonable estimates of the siltation process globally, regionally or locally, without the need for costly research. The method draws on three key parameters, i.e., the concentration of sediments suspended in water (SS), and its organic matter (OM<sub>SS</sub>) content, as well as retention capacity (N) (i.e. the volume of water in a reservoir). All of these are easy to determine, with information on them in fact made widely available by most agencies managing reservoirs in different parts of the world. In practice, the method can represents a missing link in the precise determination of reservoirs’ rates of siltation (and hence losses of retention capacity).<b> </b>

本文提出的预测水库水体悬浮沉积物在底泥中沉积速率的新方法,可在无需开展高成本调研的前提下,对全球、区域或局部尺度的淤积过程给出合理评估。该方法依托三类核心参数:水体悬浮沉积物浓度(SS)、其有机质(OM<sub>SS</sub>)含量,以及库容(N,即水库水体容积)。上述参数均易于测定,且全球多数地区的水库管理机构均可广泛获取相关数据。实际应用中,该方法可填补水库淤积速率(进而库容损失)精确测定领域的空白。
