Copper-based preservatives are used for wood and plant protection. However, application of preservatives leads to enrichment of copper tolerant microbial communities in soil . Soil microbial communities in Northern Germany and Central Germany are overall able to decompose copper-based preserved wood, thus leading to major damage in wooden stakes.The aim was to investigate the impact of wood preservative treatment on microbial communities in soil and two wood depths over time in a field based study.
