The capability of anaerobic systems to produce large quantities of biogas from animal wastes has been demonstrated, however, a lack of knowledge on the microbial community structure within the reactors exits. Therefore, this project sequenced four 5-liter anaerobic sequencing batch reactors (ASBRs) treating swine waste that were operated over a period of 988 days and three distinct operating periods to determine the archaeal and bacterial communities. DNA was extracted from one of four ASBR reactors treating swine waste OR the swine waste used as feed for the reactors. Details regarding reactor operating parameters are included within the sequence titles. PCR amplified 16S rRNA genes were cloned and sequenced without culturing. GQ132191-GQ139199 are 16S ribosomal RNA sequences associated with this project.
