The ovary is normally a paired female reproductive organ, which is the site of follicular growth and hormone secretion. Chicken ovaries are known to develop asymmetrically and only the left ovary fully develops. The left ovary shows cortex and medulla, but the right ovary has no cortex, only a medulla. Here, we present a comprehensive analysis of ovaries, using single-cell sequencing in the embryonic (E9, E11, E13, E15, E17, E19) and 12-week-old chicken ovary during sexual devolopment.
