Lens culinaris is an edible legume belonging to the family Leguminosae, seeds of which are widely used as a main source of protein for vegans. However the plant is highly susceptible towards salinity. Silica nanoparticle specially functionalized with sugars like trehalose have shown tremendous improvement in the salinity stress tolerance of the plants thereby improving the growth and productivity. However, data regarding the mechanistic overview of nanoparticle mediated salinity stress tolerance mechanism in Lens culinaris is limited. Therefore, our objective is to elucidate the detailed pathways and genes associated with the induction of nanoparticle-mediated stress tolerance in the legume plant.
