Spatial assessment of 3-30-300 rule compliance across 862 European cities at 100m resolution

This dataset provides a high-resolution spatial assessment of the 3-30-300 rule—a global guideline for urban forestry and greening—across 862 European cities. The data evaluates the three core pillars of the rule: seeing at least 3 trees from every home, having 30% canopy cover in every neighborhood, and living within 300 meters of the nearest public green space. Data Content & Format The primary data is provided as a GeoTIFF raster file at a spatial resolution of 100 meters. The pixel values represent a Compliance Score, indicating the number of satisfied criteria: 0: Non-compliant (none of the three criteria are met). 1: Low compliance (one criterion met). 2: Moderate compliance (two criteria met). 3: Full compliance (all three criteria met). Spatial Extent & City Selection The study area covers 862 cities across 31 countries (EU27, Norway, Switzerland, Iceland, and the United Kingdom). City Definition: We utilized the "City Core" definition (Urban Audit 2021) as established by the OECD and the European Commission, based on population density and administrative boundaries. Selection: The dataset includes 729 cities from the 2021 Urban Audit and an additional 133 cities from the United Kingdom (sourced from the 2020 Urban Audit) to ensure comprehensive European coverage. Reference Boundaries: The associated city polygon shapefiles used to clip this data can be downloaded via Eurostat GISCO.
