Himawari 8/9 Solar Irradiance- Instantaneous

Satellite data processed by the Bureau in real-time enables detailed analysis of clouds that diffuse incoming solar radiation. Combined with atmospheric moisture, surface albedo and aerosol information, the amount of shortwave solar radiation reaching the earth's surface is calculated. The resulting gridded data is calibrated using observations of solar radiation at high-quality ground-stations operated by the Bureau. This data set provides national, high temporal resolution (10-minutely) information about downwelling solar radiation, including surface global irradiance (W/m2), direct normal irradiance (W/m2) and surface diffuse irradiance (W/m2) at moderate spatial resolution (0.02 x 0.02 degrees). This data set can be used for multiple purposes including meteorology, solar energy and agriculture.
