PI-Provided Abstract: We conducted a web-based survey experiment to test the impact of five e-cigarette warning labels on youth and adult e-cigarette risk beliefs, willingness to use e-cigarettes, and (among people who smoke or vape) considerations to quit these products. The five warnings appeared on e-cigarette advertisements and featured either the current FDA warning about nicotine, a youth-targeted warning about the risks of vaping on youth cognitive development, chemical constituents of vaping products, chemical constituents + specific associated harms, or constituents + harms + equivalence with combustible cigarettes. We contracted with NORC to collect data resulting in final samples of 1639 adults (ages 18+) who smoke, vape, or use both products, from NORC’s probability-sampled AmeriSpeak Panel and 1217 youth (ages 14–17) from NORC’s AmeriSpeak Teen Panel and Lucid's non-probability opt-in panel. Provided here are the complete datasets, which include data on additional outcomes, along with complete study materials and syntax to replicate the findings we report in Niederdeppe et al. (2023).
