Transcriptome study of kohlrabi crops infected with Plasmodiophora brassicae

Clubroot disease caused by the rhizarian pathogen Plasmodiophora brassicae is one of the economically most important diseases of brassica crops. P. brassicae infects roots of suitable host plants and gains nutrients and energy from them to complete its life cycle and release resting spores into the soil. Further, P. brassicae alters hormone homeostasis of infected plants leading to the typical root gall symptoms.We compared pathogen and host transcriptomes of field-collected clubroot galls with symptomless roots of the same host plants (Brassica oleracea var. gongylodes) and uninfected control.
