Streptomyces sp. strain 150FB Genome sequencing

Mushrooms host a rich community of bacteria and fungi. Information about the functional characteristics of these specialized microbial communities is scanty. Mushrooms in the order Boletales are often infected by molds of the mycoparasitic genus Sepedonium (Hypomyces; Ascomycota). The bacterial community, in particular Streptomyces species, associated with the edible fruiting bodies of the ectomycorrhizal bolete genus Xerocomus can in vitro inhibit the growth of the mycoparasite. Among them, Streptomyces sp. 150FB inhibits the strongly the growth of the mycoparasite but not that of its host fungus.
