Northumberland Dolphin Dataset 2020 (NDD20) is a challenging image dataset annotated for both coarse-grained and fine-grained instance segmentation and classification. As the first iteration of the NDD, this dataset was developed in response to the rapid expansion of computer vision into conservation research and the demand for field-deployed systems optimized for extreme environmental conditions—a domain characterized by a scarcity of open-source datasets. NDD20 contains a large collection of above-water and underwater images of two distinct dolphin species, annotated for traditional coarse-grained and fine-grained segmentation tasks.
