NRS-19149 | Kosciusko National Park huts log books

This series consists of visitor log books from huts in the Kosciusko [later Kosciuszko] National Park. The huts in Kosciusko National Park have been identified as being of historic significance and are maintained by the NSW National Parks and Wildlife Service. The first log book in this series dates from January 1961. Log books continue to be used today to record the comments of people passing through the huts.The log books are arranged in alphabetical order by hut name then in chronological order. In most cases each log book consists of an A4 sized notebook in which people have written comments. Other log books have been made up from printed forms that have been stapled together to form a booklet.Comments provided by visitors include remarks on the hut, the surrounding environment, the weather and visitor's comments and anecdotes describing their experience walking or skiing in the park. Other information provided by visitors includes the names of the people or groups passing through the huts and dates and, in some cases, times people arrived at the huts. Many visitors also give their hometown or suburb and some provide information about their previous and next destination. Sketches and drawings can also be found in some of the log books. A copy of a pamphlet produced by the Australian Alps National Parks entitled "Huts Code for Visitors" is adhered to the inside cover of some log books.
