Next generation SOLiD™ platform was successfully utilized to carry out whole genome sequencing of L. donovani clinical isolates from India. This genomic study will have major implications for improving our understanding of the development of this disease, survival in and interaction with the host, virulence, pathogenicity, immunobiology and drug resistance. Our research finding has immense potential for creating renewed impact of the parasite genome on biomedical research, contributing to a paradigm shift in research activities that will lead to new diagnosis and treatment. This whole genome sequencing data which has been deposited in the public database by us, will enable researchers to develop interesting comparative and evolutionary genomics of Kinetoplastida.
