The work of Adam and Eve

Pisano, along with his assistants, produced many reliefs such as this one to ornate the Santa Maria del Fiore Cathedral in Florence. These reliefs depict allegories or scenes from the Bible or from Greek mythology. That is why they are considered as belonging to the beginning of the Renaissance: their subjects are different from those of the Gothic period and show a growing interest for the Greek and Roman period, which are at the centre of the Italian Renaissance.
