In this study, we identified a homogeneous polysaccharide from processed Polygonatum cyrtonema Hua that can increase the abundance of Lactobacillus reuteri. Polygonatum cyrtonema Hua is a herbal medicine with a long history of medicinal use in China, due to its irritancy, it is often used after repeated steaming and sun drying, and it has good therapeutic effects on ulcerative colitis. We discoveried a new polysaccharide, which was produced during the repeated steaming and drying process of Polygonatum cyrtonema Hua. We explored the mechanism by which PSP improved UC through metabolomics combined with 16S sequencing technology. Results indicated that PSP can improve LCA metabolism abnormalities and achieve therapeutic effects on UC by increasing the abundance of Lactobacillus reuteri.
