Frankia sp. R43 (LLR02022) is gram positive actinobacteria, isolated from Casuarina cunninghamiana. Frankia can perform biological nitrogen fixation were molecular di nitrogen (N2) from air is reduced in the form of oxidative stage (-3), e.g. ammonia. The strain R43 has specific characters, such as a) effective nitrogen fixation (Fix+), b) fixation of nitrogen even under nitrogen sufficient conditions and c) the ability to produce free hydrogen due to a distinct hydrogenase function.
