Raw data associated with the publication "Proteomics and machine learning identify a distinct biomarker panel to detect prodromal and early Parkinson’s disease".
Plasma samples from individuals newly diagnosed with Parkinson's disease (PD, n = 99), isolated REM sleep disturbance disorder (iRBD, n = 18), a heterogenous group of other neurological diseases (n = 41), and healthy controls (n = 36) were analysed by targeted proteomics using multiple reaction monitoring mass spectrometry coupled with prior liquid chromatographic separation. Proteins identified in biomarker discovery studies and several inflammatory proteins from the literature were monitored. A panel consisting of eight proteins demonstrated strong discriminating ability between PD and controls in a support vector machine model. Several of the proteins which were differentially expressed in PD were also altered in the iRBD group, a condition associated with a severely elevated risk of developing PD, thus suggesting pre-symptomatic molecular events, present years prior to a PD diagnosis.
