Butterflies are diverse virtually in all aspects of their ontogeny biology, such as morphology, life history, behavior etc.. However, the developmental regulatory mechanism of many important phenotypic traits remains unknown. Using Assay of Transposase Accessible Chromatin sequencing (ATAC-seq), this study provides new insights into larval cuticle color , and also new data resource for investigating developmental regulatory mechanism in butterfly ontogeny.
